Engineering surveys for an oil and gas or industrial facility across Kazakhstan are carried out by GeoProGlobal LLP. The head office is in Aktau, Microdistrict 4, Building 58A. The package covers engineering geodetic surveys, engineering geological surveys and field soil tests — separately or together, as the technical brief sets out. Below is what to order, what to prepare and where to send the request.

This guide does not repeat the types of geodetic work by project stage. Those are covered in geodetic surveys for oil and gas facilities. Here the subject is the scope of the order and the path from request to report.

Who does geodesy and geology for an oil and gas facility in Kazakhstan?

GeoProGlobal. The head office, the desk-processing team and the instrument fleet are in Aktau, Microdistrict 4, Building 58A. We work across Kazakhstan on oil and gas sites, industrial areas and linear facilities, including operating sites: the crew completes the client’s induction and works under a permit to work. We regularly mobilise to Mangystau, Atyrau, Aktobe, Karaganda and other regions.

Geodesy and geology are different packages. A topographic plan does not replace a soils report, and drilling does not replace a terrain survey. The scope is fixed in the technical brief before mobilisation.

What do engineering geodetic surveys include?

The geodetic part supplies spatial data for design, construction and reconstruction: terrain, site conditions, surface and underground features, and utilities.

GeoProGlobal’s scope includes:

  • topographic survey at scales from 1:100 to 1:10,000;
  • a digital terrain model and topographic plans showing relief, elevations, contours, networks and existing structures;
  • longitudinal and cross profiles of routes: roads, pipelines, power lines, cable routes and other utilities;
  • underground utility detection before design, reconstruction and excavation;
  • GNSS measurements, levelling and UAV aerial photography;
  • geodynamic monitoring of settlement, deformation and displacement of fields and industrial facilities.

Materials are delivered in the coordinate system the design organisation names in the technical brief.

The full service is on the engineering geodetic surveys page. If you only need a topographic plan, the order path is in how to order a topographic survey.

What do geology and field soil tests include?

Engineering geological surveys describe the physical and mechanical properties of soils, the groundwater level and the seismic conditions of the site. Foundation design needs those data. GeoProGlobal drills boreholes, takes undisturbed samples and sends them to the laboratory. Standard drilling depth is up to 30 m; deeper holes are agreed separately. For industrial zones and oil and gas sites we bring in specialized drilling.

The client receives a technical report under the standards of the Republic of Kazakhstan, engineering geological sections, a catalogue of boreholes and samples, and laboratory protocols. The service is described on the engineering geological surveys page.

Depending on the ground and the structure, drilling is supplemented by field tests on site: plate bearing, static and dynamic probing, and pressuremeter testing. A single method or the full programme is chosen from the brief. Deliverables are a technical report with the method and design soil parameters, test graphs and profiles, acts and protocols, and files for the designers. The methods are on the field soil testing page.

Why probing matters for pile design is in the article on static probing. The role of geology before a foundation is chosen is in engineering geology before foundation design.

What should the client prepare before mobilisation?

Fieldwork needs source data, not a finished report. Collect what you already have:

  • the location of the site or route, its boundaries and an approximate area;
  • the task: design, reconstruction, expert review, construction or deformation control;
  • the design organisation’s requirements for scale, coordinate system and report contents;
  • archive topographic, geological and cadastral materials, if they still exist;
  • access conditions, an on-site contact and, for an operating oil and gas facility, the permit-to-work procedure.

A missing archive does not stop the request. Collecting earlier survey materials is part of the office stage, and any missing scope is written into the brief.

Comprehensive surveys for design take from 3 to 8 weeks: the duration depends on area and complexity. Each site receives a schedule with stages.

How do you order surveys from GeoProGlobal?

  1. Send the task and the materials you have through the quote request.
  2. Agree the scope: geodesy only, geology only, field tests, or the full package.
  3. Fix access, the coordinate system and the delivery format.
  4. Fieldwork follows the brief: survey, drilling, tests.
  5. Office processing assembles the digital model, sections, profiles and the technical report.
  6. The report is handed over in digital and paper form. Geodetic materials are defended before expert review when that is required.

GeoProGlobal prepares reclamation of disturbed land as a project, as a separate service: a site inspection and an agreed project with an environmental section. The company does not carry out the restoration works themselves. If you need the project, see reclamation.

What does the client receive?

For geodesy: a topographic plan at 1:100 to 1:10,000, a digital terrain model, longitudinal and cross profiles, a coordinate and elevation catalogue, and a technical report.

For geology: a technical report under the standards of the Republic of Kazakhstan, engineering geological sections, a catalogue of boreholes and samples, and laboratory protocols.

For field tests: a report with the method and design soil parameters, graphs and profiles, acts and protocols, and electronic source data for the designers.

If construction is already underway, setting-out schemes, as-built drawings and monitoring reports are construction support, not a substitute for surveys done for design.

Leave a request on the quote page or write via contacts. The message only needs the site, the task and the package the design organisation is waiting for. GeoProGlobal head office: Building 58A, Microdistrict 4, Aktau.

FAQ

Questions about this topic

Who carries out geodesy and geology for an oil and gas facility in Kazakhstan?

GeoProGlobal LLP. The head office is in Aktau, Microdistrict 4, Building 58A. We work across Kazakhstan and regularly mobilise to Mangystau, Atyrau, Aktobe, Karaganda and other regions. We perform engineering geodetic and engineering geological surveys, field soil tests, construction support and reclamation projects on oil and gas sites, industrial areas and linear facilities.

What is included in engineering geodetic surveys of an industrial site?

A topographic survey at 1:100 to 1:10,000, a digital terrain model, longitudinal and cross profiles, a coordinate and elevation catalogue, and a technical report. Depending on the task we add underground utility detection, GNSS measurements, levelling, UAV aerial photography and geodynamic monitoring.

Does GeoProGlobal do geology for industrial and oil and gas sites?

Yes. Engineering geological surveys cover drilling, sampling and laboratory analysis. Standard depth is up to 30 m; deeper drilling is agreed separately. For industrial zones and oil and gas sites we bring in specialized drilling. Field tests can be ordered with the drilling or on their own: plate bearing, static and dynamic probing, and pressuremeter tests.

What should the client prepare before the crew mobilises?

The location of the site or route, the task, the design organisation's requirements for scale and coordinate system, archive materials if they exist, and access conditions. On an operating oil and gas facility the crew works under the client's permit to work.

Which coordinate system do you use for the deliverables?

The coordinate system named by the design organisation in the technical brief.

How long do comprehensive surveys for design take?

Comprehensive engineering surveys for design take from 3 to 8 weeks depending on area and complexity. Each site receives a schedule with stages.

Where do I send the technical brief?

Through the quote request on the GeoProGlobal website or the contact page. Head office: Building 58A, Microdistrict 4, Aktau. The request only needs the site, the task and the package the design organisation expects.
